The Pharmaceutical Company “8 de Marzo” is categorized as a science, technology and innovation entity. Its mission is the research, production and commercialization of broad-spectrum generic antibiotics, which counteract common and complicated bacterial infections. With 41 years of expertise in the production of different antimicrobials, it currently produces and markets penicillanic and cephalosporanic capsules and oral suspensions and cephalosporanic, carbapenem and monobactam injectables, distributed in three production facilities, destined for the national market and for export. The entity is certified by the Center for the State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices of Cuba (CECMED), a regulatory entity endorsed by the WHO and by the National Standardization Office (ONN) for the Quality Management System by the NC Standard –ISO 9001:2015. In the lines of research, development and innovation, Farmacéutica 8 de Marzo works on projects of antimicrobial combinations, peptides with antimicrobial activity, new formulations and presentations in response to market needs and natural products with antibacterial properties, as potential active ingredients for tackling antimicrobial resistance.It sponsors national and international events to fight for the rational use of antimicrobials, sponsored by the Ministry of Public Health, BIOCUBAFARMA, the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine, the Center for State Control of Medicines, Medical Equipment and Devices of Cuba, CECMED among other non-governmental instructions such as the WHO/PAHO.

Short content description
Currently, the largest study to date warns that every year 1.2 million people die from infections resistant to antibiotics, a number that will multiply by 10 in 2050, these already kill more than AIDS, malaria and some types of cancer. The magnitude of the problem threatens the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations Organization in the 2030 Agenda, resistance will affect at least 10 of the 17 sustainable development goals proposed by the UN. For this reason, countries must work together to guarantee and expand access to effective antibiotics against superbugs. The 8 de Marzo Pharmaceutical Company is willing to achieve partnerships between companies from both countries and the joint development of projects for the research, development and production of innovative antibiotics.
The programme is co-financed by the Slovenian Enterprise Fund and the European Union, namely from the European Fund for Regional Development. It is carried out on the basis of the Substantial Support of Fund Recipients (SME) programme from 2018 to 2023 within the framework of the Operational Programme for the Implementation of European Cohesion Policy from 2014 to 2020.
